Movies vs Books
I am currently reading "Tea & Green Ribbons," by Evelyn Doyle. It's the true story of how her father fought the Irish Supreme Court for sole custody of his 6 children. It's a really good book, but an even better movie (the movie version is called "Evelyn" and stars Pierce Brosnan). Most books are better than the movies they're made into, but sometimes a movie turns out to be better than the original book and "Tea & Green Ribbons" got me to thinking about some of the movies I felt were better than the book. The following is my list:
Slightly Better Than The Book
* Evelyn (Tea & Green Ribbons)
* Pride & Prejudice (Colin Firth version)
* Agnes Browne (The Mammy)
* all of the Lord of the Rings movies
* The Joy Luck Club
* Mystic River
* The Graduate
Heaps Better Than The Book
* Under the Tuscan Sun
* Shawshank Redemption
* Forrest Gump
* Schindler's List
* The Hours
* The Talented Mr. Ripley
Then of course there are all the movies made from Shakespearean plays. Although I enjoy reading the plays, the movie versions are a heck of a lot easier to understand!
