Happy August! Did you know...
* August was named for Augustus who was jealous because Julius had a month (July). Also Augustus made sure his new month had the exact same number of days as Julius' month.
* There is no U.S. holiday in the month of August, but several other countries have plenty of holidays in August.
* One of Ireland's biggest celebrations is Lughnasa (loo-no-sa) named for the Celtic god Lugh, who is also depicted as the Green Man. Lugh is known as "the god of every skill" and is also said to be a fertility god. (If you click on the Green Man picture, it will take you to Flickr where you can see a picture of Lugh!)
* August is National Psoriasis Awareness Month and Admit You're Happy Month.
* August begins on the same day of the week as February in a leap year.
It's also very freaking hot in SW Michigan in August. Where's all the snow?! This heat is killing me! It's too hot to go outside and I hate sitting in the house all evening on non-rainy days. I'm really looking forward to Drop (Fall or Autumn for you non-Droppers).
