Recent Purchases

I really wanted to go shopping on Black Friday, but since I didn't get off of work until 7am, I just didn't see the point. Most of the stores around here opened at 5 or 5:30, so I shopped online instead. The only items I really wanted were a new monitor for the computer and a treadmill ~ both of which were gloriously on sale! The monitor could only be bought in-store, so I missed out on that one, but I did buy the treadmill online. And it was the very same one I had tried out in the store a few weeks ago, so I knew all about the performance and other specs on it without having to fight the crowds. And it was free shipping! We did eventually get a new monitor on sale, but it wasn't as much fun as it would've been buying it on that Friday. I also got a new pair of cheapy plastic clogs. They are perfect for running outside to stand and watch Shannon rolling on the grass when she should be peeing.

Other mildly interesting world events:
* I have my final speech tomorrow night (yea!) and then next week are both of my finals. I'm really glad this speech class is coming to a close. It's just been very taxing.
* I have jury duty tomorrow. This will be my first time. I don't actually mind "jurying", but I do think it should be voluntary, not mandatory. It's gonna be kind've a bitch having to adjust my sleep schedule, but then any time not at work is time well spent as far as I'm concerned.
* During my last routine mammogram, the doctor found "suspicious calcifications" in my right breast. So now I need to go to a specialist who will re-read my films and probably take a biopsy. I'm hoping I can get an appointment with her before the holidays so that she can determine it's nothing and Vic can stop worrying non-stop. I'm trying to think positive about the whole thing. There's nothing to worry about until there's something to worry about.

That's it. Wish me luck at jury duty!

Too Sensitive

Looks like O.J. got a reprieve from the limelight courtesy of Rosie O'Donnell, Clay Aiken and Kelly Ripa. Now there's a threesome that normally don't hang out together. Personally, I think Rosie O'Donnell is a loudmouthed obnoxious twit who just likes to flaunt the fact that she's an "in" lesbian and a somewhat minor celebrity. I didn't taken any offense to what Kelly said to Clay about not knowing where his hands had been and I'll betcha most of America felt the same way until twit Rosie had to jump on the persecution bandwagon. If Clay didn't like that Kelly was hogging all the airtime and not giving him time to speak than he should've just kept his mouth shut (and his hands in his pockets) and made a mental note not to host with big-mouth Kelly again. I think if I was Kelly I probably would've reacted the same way she did. I certainly don't want someone I barely know putting their hand over my mouth. Shame on Clay. And shame on Rosie for making a big deal out of nothing. And if I'm wrong and Kelly did mean it as a slight on his supposed homosexuality, then he needs to put on his big boy panties and get used to it. He's in Hollywood now. If he's that sensitive, he needs to go back to Mayberry or wherever the heck he's from. Poor Regis. He can't even take a few days off without Kelly and her cavernous mouth stirring up the KoolAid. Ah, the troubles of the rich and incredibly dumb.

I Was a Teenage Vampire

Okay, not really, but at least it makes for an interesting title. And since absolutely nothing interesting has happened to me in a while, I thought I could use a blog with a catchy title. Vic & I haven't done a truly interesting thing since before her surgery in August. The first 6 weeks she was feeling pretty puny and it seems like the last 6 weeks, although we've both kept pretty busy, we haven't really done anything blog-worthy. We've gotten a lot of little things done around the house (which is a good thing), I've been bogged down with school and she's been busy with training crap at work. It just seems like one day about 4 weeks ago I looked out the window and stared in awe (it was more of an actual "ooo") at the beautiful autumnal colors on the trees and then the next day it snowed. Autumn lasted maybe two days and then that was it. Maybe Mother Nature knew I'd be too busy doing inside the house crap to be able to enjoy my favorite time of year, so she just skipped over it this time. I'm hoping that when school ends (in 2 weeks) Vic & I can make some time to do interesting stuff. Stuff that doesn't involve cleaning out a closet or chopping wood.

Nothing

Once again I see I've missed the Friday blog. I had to work overtime on Friday, which means I went in 4 hours early, which means that I, of course, overslept and woke up with very little time to do much more than brush my teeth and run out the door. So, no blog on Friday. Vic & I are spending the rest of the weekend laying around the house, catching up on stuff we DVR'ed (just like Tivoing). Right now I'm waiting for her to get dressed so we can go by her mom's for a quickie visit and then it's back to the crib for an evening of absolutely nothing while dressed in really big, comfy sweatpants. I wanted to kinda clean up the back yard a bit, but it's snowing and I'd rather do nothing instead. There's no school for the rest of the week and I'm off work tomorrow night, so maybe I'll try to tidy up tomorrow. Or I'll just do nothing again. In big, comfy sweats. The grey ones.

Friday's Feast
Appetizer
Do you believe there is intelligent life on other planets?
I definitely think there is life on other planets, although I'm not sure if it's intelligent or not.

Soup
What is one thing you said you'd never do, but you eventually did?
Eat Chinese food. I just never thought I'd like it. I love it!

Salad
Who is the teacher that influenced you the most in school?
None. I hated high school. I've had some college English/Lit teachers that have impressed me, but not to the point that I remember any of their names. I don't even know the name of my Med. Term. teacher and I'm taking that class now!

Main Course
If you could trade places with anyone for one day, who would it be and why?
Samantha Brown. She's the host of "Travels to Europe with Samantha Brown." I'd like to be her on a day when she's traveling to Ireland or Wales.

Dessert
What is your favorite dish to prepare?
Drive thrus.

New Books?

So did you hear about O.J.'s new "hypothetical" book entitled If I Did It? In it he supposedly tells us how he would have committed the murders if he had in fact committed the murders. Not that he did, mind you. What a moron! I wonder what my school would think if I wrote an essay entitled How I Would've Cheated On My Final Exams Had I Actually Cheated. Or how about How I Called Out Sick When What I Really Did Was Stay Home & Watch the Tigers Game? Or the ever popular How To Say "Yes Honey, I Really Did Clean Out the Litterboxes" With a Straight Face. Okay, maybe I won't try out that last one.

Monday, Monday

Everybody already knows that Mondays suck butt because they're the beginning of the dreaded workweek, but my Mondays seem to suck a little more because they don't actually start until 11:00pm. And because they don't start until it's almost Tuesday, they just end up prolonging the workweek. So all day Monday I'm lulled into a false sense of day-offedness. Monday is a luller.

Vic & I had a nice afternoon out on Sunday. We strolled up & down Main St. in Royal Oak's shopping district and bought a few things we really didn't need, but had to have. Actually, we both bought stocking stuffers for each other's Christmas. Vic has an impossible time waiting, though, so I got mine when we got home. I hid hers.

Belated Friday Blog

Sleeping Vic
Originally uploaded by wahoo1265.
It's just a bit after 3am Saturday night/Sunday morning and Vic & I are watching a Murphy Brown marathon (that Candice Bergen is really a hoot!). Actually, I just finished editing the powerpoint part of my presentation for the speech I was supposed to give last Thursday, but blew off because I'm a bad student and Vic is napping on the couch with several kitties. I'm sure when she reads this and sees her picture she'll be a little miffed, but then I'll remind her of the time she recorded my snoring and played it for our friends. Repeatedly. Ad nauseam. You know what they say about paybacks.

So anyway, it's 3am and I just realized that I never got around to blogging on Friday and I always try to include an entry on that day because Friday is the end of the work week, something I'm always very excited about. But on this particular Friday, it was very cold out so I made a wonderful fire and decided to study a bit. Well, the fire was a mixture of beautiful oranges and it was making that wonderful crackling sound, I was curled up under a kitty blankie and I had some wonderful classical music on...so, naturally, I fell asleep. I woke up with just enough time to get ready for work and no time to blog.

Our Saturday night was spent pretty much the same way ~ relaxing in front of the TV with a great fire crackling in the background. I'm relieved that I finally got that dumb presentation out of the way ~ now I don't have to worry about it any more this weekend. We're going to meet a friend later on Sunday and she's going to show us around Royal Oak. There are supposed to be a lot of great shops and little restaurants along Main St. that I've been wanting to check out for quite some time. I'm looking forward to a nice afternoon out.

Unconsciencable

I'm not really sure how I mismanaged my time for the past week, but I did. I'm usually pretty good about making a plan & sticking with it, but it just seemed like I kept running out of time every day last week and because of that I don't have my speech completed for tonight's class. It's about 75% done, but it needs a little tweeking and I need to go over it so that I don't go in there unprepared. I've been doing so well in this class that I don't want to screw it up with a bad speech. So instead of going in there unprepared I'm just not going at all. I wrote my instructor an email to tell her that I would be out of town and, unfortunately, would not be able to attend class tonight. I lied. And because I've been there every night so far and have had great speeches, she believed me. I should feel bad about this, but for some reason I don't. I've been kinda burned out lately school-wise and I think I just need a little break. Or maybe I'm a ruthless bitch with no conscience. Either way, I'm spending tonight catching up on some laundry & taking a whack (literally) at splitting some more firewood. I'll work on my speech this weekend. I promise.

Why I Don't Watch Morning TV

I usually don't watch TV when I come home in the morning, but for some reason today I switched on Good Morning America while I was changing out of my uniform. Their #1 story was concerning the election results and how the democrats have taken hold of the House for the first time in a bajillion years. Their #2 story was Brittany Spears' filing for divorce from Kevin Federline. I nearly choked on my french toast stick. Robin Roberts actually said, "When we return, we'll explore what went wrong and where Brittany will go from here." After I dislodged my french toast bits, I yelled out, "Who the fuck cares!" sending kitties scattering about the house. I can't believe that Good Morning America is going to address the personal lives of Brittany Slut & K-Fed! My respect for Diane & Robin has dropped a few notches since this morning. I hope he takes her for everything she's got. She's probably worth about $25 million and that dirtbag white trash rapper-wannabe dicksquirt soon to be ex-husband of hers probably hasn't made $25.00 the entire time he's been married to slutgirl. Well now K-Fed is gonna be a rich dude and have all the ladies wantin' sum a dat! I didn't stick around for GMA's third top story. It was probably about Bush's dog having diarrhea or something.

lackadaisical

I see I've been a bit lax in blogging lately, but it's been kind've a hectic week. Looking back, it seems like I spent almost all my free time working on something for one of my classes. And I still feel unprepared! This is week 6 of the 10 week quarter and I could really use a break. The sad thing is that I'm taking only 2 classes! I guess I just got used to having all my evenings free and I got into a "sit around & cross-stitch" routine that I'm having difficulty in breaking. Next quarter I'll be taking Anatomy & Physiology, Intro to Windows and Intro to Word Processing. I'm not too worried about either of the computer classes, but I'm not so sure about the A&P class. I just need a vacation.

Vic finished her 2 week training class and along with her certificate she also got a terrible cold from one of the twits in class. She was sick all weekend and it carried into Monday, too. Because Vic was so sick, we stayed home all weekend. I went grocery shopping and we got a few smallish things done around the house, but it was mainly a weekend filled with lots of naps. Now that it's getting colder, I wake up to find myself sharing the bed with at least 5 kitties a night. Sometimes there are so many kitties in bed with me, that I can't move. I feel like Gulliver being held down by the Lilliputians! They make great feet warmers, though.
