The really great thing about having your team go to the World Series is that now you've got a really good team to root for. And everybody in town is excited and after many years of watching your team struggle just to stay out of last place, you've finally got a team to get pumped about. Of course the bad thing about having your team go to the World Series is that now all the losers who didn't support your beloved team when they couldn't give away tickets to the games, are now snatching up all the good seats and just generally pissing me off. For example, I set my alarm Saturday morning to wake up in time to buy Tigers tickets when they went on sale at 10am only to be thwarted! I couldn't purchase them online because of the "high volume of ticket purchasing activity" and was sent to a queue that refreshed every 30 seconds to tell me that my wait would be "an undetermined time." And my efforts to order over the phone were met with a constant busy signal. So after an hour of this thwartingness, I finally gave up and went back to bed. Later that afternoon, however, I did manage to secure tickets for a couple of games, but I wonder if the "new fans" got better seats than me. Thwarters! Anyhoo, Vic and I are going to 2 games; one on July 4th where we'll get to see some great fireworks and the other on floppy hat night which will be broadcast on ESPN, so look for me! I'll be the one wearing a floppy hat.
We also went to a little mini concert that the Friends of the Library sponsor every month. (Vic's mom is a Friend.) Mercifully it was only an hour long. The group this month was an Irish band made up of two brothers and their sister (all adults). They could've appeared on "A Mighty Wind" and would've fit right in.
The rest of the weekend was spent studying, cross-stitching, scrapbooking, and teasing the dog. Pretty much a carbon copy of all my other weekends. Vic and I did purchase a double-high air mattress for camping and for the occasional pair of guests who happen to drop by. We inflated it and took a test nap in front of the fireplace. It worked great.
