Assorted Stuff

* Only two more weeks and then school is over...for two weeks. I was kinda worried about my grade in A&P, but I think I'm doing okay, so far. I got an A on yesterday's test and I feel pretty good about tomorrow's quiz, so I think I should do pretty well overall. I'm just really looking forward to our break!

* The weather has been kind of on the mild side lately, but I'm sure we'll get more snow soon. As a matter of fact, we are currently under a Winter Weather Advisory. A wintry mix (I love the word "wintry") of sleet and freezing rain is fast approaching our backyard. We're running out of firewood pretty quickly, so today I went and got 1/4 cord. A cord is one of those measurements you hear of, but never really get to experience the measurementness of until you're cold and need to burn something.

* Baseball tickets go on sale Saturday. Vickie is very excited. She just doesn't know it yet. I'm going to try to get us tickets for "floppy hat" night!

* My little part of the world made it to the Nancy Grace show. I love Nancy Grace ~ she's such a bitch. It's the story about the missing woman from Macomb County. I, too, am from Macomb County, but I'm right here, so I don't think Nancy is going to come a-calling.

A Jolly Weekend

Nap Time
Originally uploaded by wahoo1265.
Vic worked a lot of overtime this past week, so I was really looking forward to seeing her on Saturday. So, of course, she worked 11 hours OT on Saturday. I spent the day doing laundry, studying for my upcoming test, and running a few errands. Vic finally made it home around 8pm and was tired as hell, so she took a nap. (I felt obligated to take one, too.) We tend to take a lot of naps in this house, especially in the cold months. But it's never a good idea to take a nap at 8pm. We slept for about 3 hours and then stayed up watching movies all night. When I finally climbed into bed it was just after 7am! It's great staying up all night, but then your whole Sunday is ruined. (We usually don't do this in the Summer, because I have too many weekend things planned.) Sometimes Shannon will just get so tired watching movies with us that she'll actually go upstairs to her bed. Lightweight!

So Sunday I woke up around 2ish and then a few hours later we met Vic's mom at the Jolly Senior Citizen Center for an evening of Irish music. Ya know, you just can't go wrong with a concert at the Jolly, and the band was very good, but we've seen them so many times now that we know all their songs. It was a little disappointing not to hear something new, but we did have pop and snacks at the Jolly, so the night wasn't a total washout. And of course, when we finally made it home, we ended up staying up all night watching movies again. I think we're becoming owls.

Craft Update

I recently began a new cross-stitch project. Whenever I'm taking classes, I feel guilty if I spend my free time doing something other than studying, but I like having something to do while watching TV, so I gave up my rule on "no extra stuff." It's been months since I've read a book that I didn't buy at the school bookstore, so I'm really looking forward to this Summer. I decided to take the Summer quarter off from school and I'm going to try to read a book a week for the whole quarter. The last Harry Potter comes out in July and I'm ready! Actually, I'm read for just about anything that doesn't involve the human anatomy.

I've also been working a lot on the London scrapbook. Next month will be two years since we took that trip and I still don't have the book completed! At first I had good reasons for not tackling it (moving out, moving in, starting jobs, etc.), but the last year I've just been lazy. I'm determined to get that done in the next month or two, though, because I really want to start work on the regular day-to-day scrapbook. If I didn't have to work, I could get a lot more done around the house and I'd be further along in school. Vic just isn't sympathetic to my plight, however.

Where on your body do you have a scar, and what caused it?
On the underside of my chin. I split my chin open when I was about 5 ~ I can still feel the doctor pulling the thread thru my chin. Ewwww.

Soup
What is something that has happened to you that you would consider a miracle?
Finding Shannon. I know that if Vic & I hadn't found her on Valentine's Day '01 she wouldn't be around today. She was very sick and her person didn't take care of her. She's a wonderful dog, with a huge heart and two lucky moms.

Salad
Name a television personality who really gets on your nerves.
Rosie O'Donnell ~ fingernails on a blackboard.

Main Course
What was a funny word you said as a child (such as "pasketti" for "spaghetti")?
I used to say "beedy-house" for bed. I still do. I don't know why.

Dessert
Fill in the blank: I have always thought ______ was ______.
I have always thought that a butterfly was a sign of good luck.

I wasn't going to say anything, but now that A.N. has gone to that great titty bar in the sky, I feel the maternal obligation to take care of Little Blah Blah Face. And before you naysayers roll your eyes in unbelieving distrust, my need to express my motherly instinct has nothing at all to do with the bajillions of dollars Little Whoozits is going to one day inherit and share with her as-yet-to-be-determined caregiver. No! It's just that now I am at a certain age when I feel the need to be a nurturer and now is the perfect opportunity for me to nurture away. I want to be there for Little Yadahoo and all the important events in her life. I want to be the one to choose the nanny and send her off to boarding school and pick her future celebrity rehab facility. I want to be there to help her buy a boat and take fabulous trips all over Europe where we'll spend scads of money on useless trinkets that we'll decorate our palatial multi-level mansion with. I really need to get in touch with Nancy Grace and have her air my plight on CNN. Or maybe I'll contact Oprah. This is just the kind of mother-daughter reunion story that pulls on her veiwers heartstrings. Or maybe that's Maury. Anyway, as god is my waitress, Little Hoo Hoo Face and I will be together soon. Hopefully she'll come potty trained.

Wednesdays have become my new favorite day of the week (not counting weekends or any day I don't have to work). Wednesdays are great because I don't have class, so this allows me the opportunity to relax with Shannon in front of the fireplace and catch up on cross-stitching. And although I still have to go to work, the middle of the week is usually not a busy night, so I can watch the Sopranos in relative peace. This morning, when I came home from work, this little SnowVickie greeted me at the door. She has a cute little hat and scarf and little button eyes and nose. By this afternoon she was gone, but she left behind her hat & scarf (and eyes, nose and arms, too!), so that we can share them with the next snowperson that wanders into our backyard.

Vic & I had made tentative plans to go a few places this past weekend, but ended up staying inside most of the time. We stayed up until 4 in the morning watching movies and then slept in until around noonish the next day. It was wonderful! When it's nice out, I feel guilty being inside and spend a lot of time gardening or just hanging out in the backyard with Shannon. But Winter gives me the okay to stay in and be lazy. Well, not entirely lazy. I did get some laundry done and did a lot of cross-stitching and scrapbooking, so I guess my weekend was "craftily lazy."

* Hunting season - poor little animals.

Snow & Sunshine

This past week I got a "B" on my A&P Lab midterm, but made up for it by getting an "A" in my online spreadsheets class. The bitch of it is that I really studied for that stupid test, so I have a feeling I'm probably going to end up getting a "B" in the class. Stupid-head anatomy shit!

It's snowing today, so we haven't left the house all day. Vic & I rented a couple of DVDs; The Guardian was about Ashton Kutcher and Kevin Costner being Coast Guard guys. It's a good movie if 1.) you like seeing Kevin Costner play the same macho badass he plays in every one of his movies, 2.) you really like Ashton Kutcher and enjoy seeing him play the cute guy who always gets the girl, and 3.) you don't mind knowing how the movie is going to end after watching the first 5 minutes of it. We also saw Little Miss Sunshine. Now this was a wonderful movie. There were parts that I actually laughed out loud at. Go rent it. Now.

Little Casey Sunshine at home and Hurricane Casey at work.

Salad
What specific subject do you feel you know better than any other subjects?

The Compleat Works of William Shakespeare.

Dessert
If a popular candy maker contacted you to create their next confection, what would it be like and what would you name it?
It would be a dollop of peanut butter in the shape of a small cup, covered with milk chocolate and wrapped up in cute Easter pastel colors.

The weather guys estimated about 6" and I'm inclined to agree with them. But as bad as we have it, I don't think it's nearly as bad as the whooping New York seems to be taking. I think tonight will be the perfect night to stay home and make a fire. I'll curl up with a blankie and I'll lay Shannon's blankie on the floor in front of the fire and we'll watch "Law & Orders" or "Raymonds" or some other dopey shows.

Weekend

It seems like my weekends are getting shorter and shorter every week! It was supposed to snow all weekend, but didn't actually start until Monday morning. On Saturday, we spent most of the day getting errands done (grocery shopping, etc.), so we wouldn't have anything to do on Sunday. And nothing is about what our Sunday consisted of. I did some laundry and talked about studying for my 2 tests this week, but the majority of the day was spent in front of the fireplace watching Vickie-selected TV. We rented "The Black Dahlia" on pay-per-view and let me tell you, that has to be one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. It was slow and confusing and about half-way through it I really didn't care how it ended ~ I just wanted it to end already! We also watched "Four Weddings & a Funeral" (still a good movie), "Lockup:Women in Prison" (scary), and a some "This Old House" reruns (I like Norm). So Sunday was pretty much a stress-free, non-thinking kind of day.

Today, Vic had to go to work early, so I've had the house to myself all day. I took my final exam for my online course (I got an A!) and have been watching the birdies play in the snow. I wanted to get some pictures of them, but every time I open the door, they fly off. I think I'm going to hit the treadmill for a bit and then study for my tests. At least, that's the plan.

However, if you're lucky, you can still spot the occasional donut hole man in your neighborhood. And today the donut gods were smiling down on us, because I happened upon this little fella in our own backyard! This is very rare indeed and I'm not only lucky he was in my yard, but I'm also lucky that I got to him before the birdies and squirrels did. They're very fond of donut hole men. As we all are.

Feast One Hundred & Thirty
Appetizer - Have you been sick yet this winter? If so, what did you come down with?
Luckily I haven't been sick yet. I have called out sick to work, though.

Soup - What colors dominate your closet?
Blues, browns, & greens.

Salad - How would you describe your personal "comfort zone"?
I'm not sure. I'm usually okay just about anywhere as long as it's planned out. If I need to deviate at all, I'll get a little jumpy and start to stress. I guess I'm not a "fly by the seat of your pants" kind of girl.

Main Course - On which reality show would you really like to be a contestant?
The only reality show I've ever watched have been "Flavor of Love" (what a freak show!) and "Top Chef" (I hated that Marcel guy), but I know I don't ever want to be on either of those. I think I'd have to pick "The Amazing Race" because they get to travel all over the place.

Dessert - Which holiday would you consider to be your favorite?
I've always really liked July 4th because everyone is happy, the Boston Pops play on PBS, and I'm under no obligation to buy anyone a present.

Happy Computer
Originally uploaded by wahoo1265.
We got our computer back today and he seems much happier after his trip to the doctor. It seems that he had a rather nasty virus, but luckily we caught it in time and nothing was lost off the hard drive. I'm still not sure how we got it, but I'm glad it's gone. I have one more week in my online spreadsheets class, but I had computer guy remove the trial version of Excel I downloaded, so now I'll have to complete the rest of my homework assignments at work. We're not sure if the trial version I downloaded caused the virus, but better safe than sorry! It's just gonna be a pain to have to do all this work at work, but I've certainly got the time, so I'll just have to suffer I guess.

It's been unbelievably cold here the last couple of weeks. We've had very little snow, but the ground has been so cold that the snow isn't melting. So now what we've got is a lot of mini snow piles just sitting around not melting and getting dirty. And then there's also all the cars looking filthy due to the salt on the streets. All in all not a very pretty sight. But the patches of untouched snow on lawns is really beautiful. Our backyard looks so serene after a snowfall. And then Shannon romps all thru it and pees. Where the heck is Spring already?!

Of course owning a car means you also have to pay car insurance, license plate fees, maintenance costs, and the inevitable major malfunctions that occur when you either a.) have no money, or b.) are leaving for a 10 hour car trip in the morning. Computers are cars without wheels. I can't imagine not having access to the internet, especially since I'm now in the middle of a 3-week online class (and I need to keep up on the latest Harry Potter book release news!), so wouldn't you know that our computer has just experienced a major malfunction. We have some sort of virus or worm or something other evil computer-hating organism residing right in the middle of road on our beloved information superhighway.

I'm not sure how the little snot-wad got here, because both Vic & I are pretty cautious about not opening unsolicited email or other devious looking things. And I feel pretty confident that all the porn sites I visit are safe, so there's really no telling what happened. Luckily, I caught it in time and contacted our computer fixit guy immediately. He was able to talk me thru correcting the problem over the phone, but we still have a pesky hanger-on that refuses to go the hell away, so Monday morning I'll be unplugging everything from the CPU (what a colossal pain in the ass!) and visiting Phil, the computer dude. I'm sure he'll be able to set everything right again, but there's really no telling how long he'll have to keep the CPU. I'd hate to think we'll be riding the "bus" for more than an afternoon. Stupid twat-head virus!

Squamous (another fun word to say aloud)
