Bad Blogger

This has really been a bad week for blogging. A very good week for being busy, though. I've got two finals next week ~ on the same night. I guess my weekend will be filled with studying and trying to work on my Christmas card list and putting up some decorations. And staying out of the snow. We're supposed to get 3"-5" this weekend. I'll believe it when I see it.

Where did Autumn go?? Vic & I were going to take Shannon to the park to look at the leaves, and now it's going to snow! We missed all the Autumnal colors. I guess we were both so busy with school and work and visiting her mom in the hospital that we just let the time slip away. Bummer.

Beige Friday

Thanksgiving Morning
Originally uploaded by wahoo1265
This is a picture of what our backyard looked like when I woke up Thanksgiving morning. It snowed pretty much the whole day, but the only flakes that actually stuck were the ones that fell overnight. Needless to say, I was very excited for Vic & Shannon, and couldn't wait for them to wake up to see our grass lightly covered in snow. So I waited for them to wake up. And waited. And waited. You see, both Vic & Shannon seem to need a minimun of 9-10 hours of sleep, especially on non-work days. (I have no clue what Shannon does around the house on work days.) So, consequently, by the time they both plodded sleepy-eyed downstairs, the snow was all gone. I'm pretty sure, however, that we'll have more before the winter season is thru.

Speaking of sleeping in...did anyone participate in the Black Friday festivities? When the Thursday morning paper came, I read thru all the ads, made a list of the items I thought were good buys and plotted out a course of action for Friday morning. I figured that if Vic & I got up by 4am (Vic up by 4am!), we could be outside the first store by 5:00 and be one of the first ones thru the door when they opened at 6:00. I was feeling very proud of my craftiness...until I saw on Thursday afternoon's news that people were already lined up outside the stores and it wasn't even 1:00! That when I crumpled up the deviously cunning plot and said "screw it" ~ no bargain is worth camping out overnight on a store's sidewalk! So we all slept in on not-so-Black Friday (of course Vic & Shannon slept later) and just enjoyed the day off.

Blogging Buddies

As you can see, I've finally gotten around to updating my blog (somewhat). I've really met a lot of nice bloggers and I wanted to share them with other visitors who might wander into my blog. I started blogging shortly before Vic & I made the arduous move from Florida to Michigan almost 3 years ago. I wanted a way to keep in touch with the friends we were going to leave behind, and my friend Shawn turned me onto blogging. Thru Shawn's blog, either directly or indirectly, I met most of the bloggers I now visit regularly. These are some of the nicest people (and kitties) I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I've found that I'm genuinely concerned about their cats, sheep, chickens and the other goings-on in their lives. And I love the pictures that accompany the invitations into their lives ~ some of the most beautiful photos of European countrysides and just nature in general can be found here.

So to all my blogger friends, I'd like to say that I'm so glad I've met you all and I thank you for providing me with a glimpse into your lives. I hope you've all had a great Thanksgiving (or in the U.K., I hope you had a great Thursday) and I wish everyone a great upcoming 2008!

Friday Happy Dance

Yes, today is technically Wednesday, but since I'm off from work on Thursday & Friday, I got to do the Friday Happy Dance today! Yea!! I am soooo looking forward to this upcoming long weekend. Our plans for tomorrow are to visit Vic's mom in the hospital in the moring and then Vic will cook enough food for the whole street while I curl up in front of the fire and fall asleep while watching football. Sounds perfect to me. And it may actually snow tomorrow, too. It's been raining all day today and the weather guy says it'll flurriate after midnight. We'll see. Both Vickie & Shannon are very excited at the prospect of snow. Not so much me.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

No Time

I have been trying all weekend to sit down and blog, but it seems like I just haven't had any time. At all! I've wanted to re-work my blog so that I can add links to other people's blogs I really enjoy reading, but I just can't devote the 20 or 30 minutes to it. I'm hoping I'll have some "down time" on Thanksgiving and the day after (my two days off!).

Vic & I spent all weekend ~ that's ALL FREAKING WEEKEND ~ splitting firewood. I love our little wood-burning stove, but we have to take any wood we get for it and make it smaller. So instead of spending all winter axing away, we rented a log splitte at our handy neighborhood testosterone-laden rent-all place, got about a gazillion logs and started splitting away. It's a lot easier than the old axe method, but still pretty back-breaking work. And I've got a nice roaring fire a-blazing away right now. But all this splitting left me no time to blog.

I was also busy writing a paper. Not just any paper, mind you, but a grade appeal request. I'm appealing the grade I received in Pathophysiology during the Summer. I missed getting an A by 9/10ths of a point and my instructor is an unapproachable snitty bitch-face who screwed up my perfect 4.0 GPA, so I'm appealing on the grounds that she's a snitty bitch-face. Of course, I worded it a little differently and sprinklin in some big words like "attainable" and "participatory" so that it would sound a little better. I figure it can't hurt to try and if nothing else, it'll inconvenience her over the holiday.

Now to the 3 day old feast...

Stuff

One of the nicer perks of my new job is that we're off on Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. With pay. After you've been there for 6 months. So it's kind've a bummer that I won't get those days off paid, but it'll be really nice having those days off period. My entire life, every full-time job I've ever held has required I work on holidays. The next 6 weeks or so will be a nice change of pace! And BONUS!, next month I'll get to wear my many, many Christmas socks!

Vic's mom is still in ICU, but doing better...I think. She's able to communicate and the doctors have finally removed the chest tubes. She's been eating popsicles and drinking liquids off and on, but most of it still runs out the hole in her neck. I guess it's going to take a while for it to close up completely.

Friday & Saturday the weather was quite chilly and now for the last couple of days it's been unseasonably warm. Indian summer, I guess. I wish the weather would stay like this for the rest of winter!

I have my third test in Microbiology tomorrow. So far I'm getting an A, so I hope I can keep it up. I have a great teacher and the class is pretty interesting; and because it starts at 4pm, I get out of work an hour early every Wednesday. Yea!

A Week of Yeas!

This week...I got my first paycheck at the new job, finally found a radio station at work that doesn't play 24-hr Christmas music, got an A on my Microbiology test, found a quarter on the ground and got free stuff from the AccuChek salesman that came to work to demonstrate his new products. Yea! You can never have enough pens imprinted with prescription medications on them!

Fleas Navidad

I get to have a small radio on my desk at work...YEA! I can only pick up two stations clearly; one is country and the other is non-stop Christmas music...BOO! Since I would rather rip my toenails out than listen to country music, I'm stuck in 24-hr yuletidiness. It's non-stop Johnny Mathis, Carpenters and that Boston Pops song with the fake horse whinny at the end. If I hear too many more sleigh bells ring-ting-ting-a-ling or rock around the Christmas tree much more or hear how it's beginning to look alot like Christmas I may just stand up on my swivelly desk chair and scream hysterically over my cubicle.

Birthday hint: A small radio/cd player for my desk. Emphasis on the cd part.

Cubicle

Halloween is over and we decided to share the "remains of the day" with some of our backyard friends! Speaking of, it's now been a week since we've last seen Macy Grey kitty. We know she has daytime people, so we're hoping that they have decided to keep her indoors since it's been getting chillier at night. That's what we tell ourselves anyway. Now that the frost has started creeping in, we've had to bring in all the outside plants and a few small trees. We could have made room for Macy, too.

I've been at work a week now and I'm still happy with the position. The other day I took in some little baubles from home to put on my desk. In all my years of working, this only the second time I've had my own desk. And just the first time that I've had my own partitions. I have my very own cubicle! And my own phone extension! Now if I could just get my radio on my very own desk to pick up something other than the country music station!

Vic has been sick all week, so we took today off from going to the hospital. Her mom is sick enough already and certainly doesn't need Vic's germs on top of it all. So other than cutting grass, for hopefully the last time this year, we did a whole lot of nothing this Saturday. And it was great!
